Project description
The historic 1929 field house
at Adrian College was converted into a functional campus center. Respecting the building's historic prominence on campus, every effort was made to preserve the structural and aesthetic qualities
of the original arena. A portion
of the main level was excavated
to create a computer lab, art
studio space, and sculpture court. The offices and various meeting rooms on the upper floor cantilever and wrap around the original court space, which now accommodates food service functions and dining/lounge spaces. A new
free standing
masonry elevator connects the open atrium with all three levels of the building. A new main entry for the building was creatively situated in the space
once occupied by the original
fly loft and stage. |
